Whether you have been to summer camp or not, you will feel like you have after reading the first in the series of Daniel and Destinee’s Epic Adventures. Trouble at Camilion Creek follows the siblings as they experience making new friends, camping out and work together to solve a ghostly mystery.
“I wanted to create a fun story for early readers that would be engaging and also share a message of working together and overcoming fears,” said Deborah S. Martin, first time author and longtime educator. “I selected vocabulary that is perfect for sounding out words and encouraging out loud reading that is also a page-turning adventure kids will enjoy.”
Destinee’s brother Daniel has Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) which can make it difficult to focus and follow directions. However, Daniel doesn’t let anything hold him back from being a leader and encouraging his sister to overcome her fears of some of the more physical activities offered at the camp. Together they, and their new friends, enjoy new experiences, learn to be self-reliant and even solve an on-going mystery.
“This young adult chapter book takes me back to my own memories of summer camp,” said Lisa Umina, founder and president of Halo Publishing International. “Readers and their parents will enjoy following Daniel and Destinee as they survive outside their comfort zone, trying new things, overcoming fears and working together to enhance their camping experience.”
Parents will love reading a story of siblings who work so closely together to help each other out. Many times in the story Destinee feels timid or unsure but her brother is right by her side helping her, encouraging her and ultimately her inner brave soul emerges triumphant.
“I never went camping as a child,” said Martin. “It wasn’t until recently that I experienced summer camp as a Young Life Leader in the mountains of North Carolina that I came to learn all about surviving and thriving in the outdoors. The friendships I made were a blessing and I can’t wait to go back. I hope young readers will see that, although we are all different, we can accept each other for who we are, as we are and work together to create lifelong memories.”
Martin is already working on the next adventure of our heroes Daniel and Destinee. In the meantime, “Daniel & Destinee’s Epic Adventures: Trouble at Camilion Creek” is now available at Halo Publishing, Amazon and Barnes and Noble, in paperback for $13.95 and as an e-book for $8.99.
