Andrew Zimmerman is a first-time author whose background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Transportation from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and practical maritime experience on commercial ships and tugboats all over the world and the Great Lakes region. He is also the grandson of William “Bill” Hughes, a Yeoman aboard the LST 66 and featured in the book. He currently holds an unlimited tonnage third mate’s license from the United States Coast Guard and is a Lieutenant in the Strategic Sealift Program of the United States Naval Reserve. He also currently works for the defense-contracting firm, Sayres and Associates, Corp., based in Washington, D.C., where he is involved with the shipbuilding of the Navy’s newest class of amphibious vessels. Along with his wife and son, Andrew lives in Alexandria, VA, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
