AUTHOR: Porcha A. Packer
Porcha A. Packer is a healthcare professional at Methodist San Antonio Cardiology Clinic and author of the new children’s book “Mommy Does My Crown”. This is the first of many books to come from the author that focus on helping young children, particularly young children of color, develop self-love. A natural born artist, her talent and personality shine through in her illustrations. Porcha adds a bit of her life experiences into each story to inspire and entertain, but most of all, to teach young children of color that it’s okay to love themselves and everything about themselves.
Mommy Does My Crown
Mommy Does My Crown is about a little indigenous girl who's learning the values of self-love through an intimate tradition with her mother. She is learning that her hair is magical in its natural state and that her hair is an important part of who she is and doesn't have to be straight to be beautiful. It is able to take many forms, which is why we call it a crown. Through this tradition, it is being instilled in her that she is to love every part of herself despite anything negative done or said towards her.
