Stick around until the end, and I’ll tell you the most important step most authors forget to do.
Today, I’m going to walk you through our proven publishing process we use for authors around the world.
Here are the 10 steps:
Step 1: Edit your manuscript.
Once your manuscript has been approved by our committee and you signed our agreement, we will assign your manuscript to our editor. The editor will edit the following: the manuscript, about the book, about the author and the dedication. We assign an editor that obviously works in the publishing industry to take it to the level it needs to make sure it is ready for the publishing market.
Step 2: Choose a format.
If you’re publishing a children’s book or a novel, there’s so many different sizes to select from using Print on Demand. We normally suggest 8.5” x 8.5” for a children’s book and, depending on the word count, 5.5” x 8.5” or 6” x 9” for novels.
Select an image for your book cover.
We use pixels.com. This website provides copyright-free images you can use for your book cover. Our production team will design the book cover using the image you select, the title and author name on the cover. We will also set up a personalized back cover to include your author photo, bio and about the book.
Step 3: Bring your story to life.
If you’re publishing a children’s book, you will have a portfolio of award-winning illustrators that will bring your story to life.
Step 4: Design your illustrations.
Our production team will design your book cover-to-cover by paginating the interior pages, setting chapter headers, content and foreword page. Or, if it is a children’s book, they will set the illustrations and text to each page.
Step 5: Review the electronic proof.
You will receive an electronic proof of the front cover, back cover and interior pages. What is an electronic proof? It’s a PDF file that you can open up as a file on your desktop computer to review how your book will look before it goes to print. We suggest having someone else, other than yourself, to look at the electronic proof.
Step 6: Confirm the proof.
You will submit a form to approve the proof. Production will upload the book files to place your title on sale globally.
Step 7: Release your book.
We encourage our authors to purchase books from us to sell directly to their family and friends. Everyone you know will want an autographed copy, plus you will be saving 40% selling them on your own.
Step 8: Promote your book to your audience.
On Social Media:
Your titles are going to be live (on sale) in 7 to 10 business days. We will send you the social media campaign to post on your social media pages (you will need to set up all your social media pages including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
Through an Email Blast:
We will create an email blast and send to your email. You need to forward this to all your contacts to purchase your book. It will have a “Click Here” link to direct your clients to purchase your book on Amazon.
Step 9: Get reviews.
Request family and friends to post five-star reviews for your book on Amazon.
Step 10: Promote your book at local events.
Contact local bookstores, libraries, schools and non-profit organizations to host your author events.
And the most important part that authors forget to do is have a marketing plan in place to promote your new book after it is published.
